One of the vehicles that made its debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show that was held in Detroit is the 2013 Hyundai Veloster. Just like the other vehicle models that were unveiled on the event, the 2013 Hyundai Veloster has a lot of new features to offer and these would surely delight a lot of car buyers in the US. Hyundai has implemented some upgrades on the vehicle thereby making it more competitive in its segment.
One of the most significant changes that Hyundai has made on the latest version of the Veloster was the use of a new engine which significantly improved the vehicle's running performance. For the 2013 model, Hyundai has used the new 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine on the car. This engine is capable of producing up to 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. The turbocharged engine is mated to a 6-speed sequential-shift transmission that allows the 2013 version of the Hyundai Veloster to deliver more power and provide the needed performance that most buyers expect from a sporty hatchback.
Compared to the base engine used by the previous year's model, the 1.6-liter turbocharged version provides more power and torque into the vehicle. In fact, the latest engine produces an additional 63 horsepower and 72 lb.-ft. of torque compared to what the engine of the previous model is generating. In addition to this, the transmissions used by the two versions are also different. The base is using the dual-clutch type while the 2013 edition of the Hyundai Veloster is equipped with the sequential-shift.
Unfortunately, Hyundai was failed to provide the fuel economy ratings of this new model. Thus, it might be impossible to compare the difference between the fuel economy ratings of the latest model and the base. However, Hyundai has provided an assurance that they would issue a statement about this as soon as they are able to obtain the estimated fuel economy ratings of the Veloster turbo. Most car experts believe that the company's engineers and vehicle developers are subjecting the latest model to a series of tests to obtain its exact fuel economy estimates.
Given all of the upgrades implemented on the Veloster, Hyundai is quite confident that this model would be able to attract more buyers particularly from the younger generation. In addition to this, the company is also quite confident that the Veloster will be capable of competing with hotter hatchbacks such as the Honda Civic Si, Mini Cooper S, and the Volkswagen GTI.
